the cleansing experience
Last week I promised to do a post on the 3 day cleanse I did. So here it is! It turned out to be easier than I thought. This may be in part due to the fact that you are allowed one "meal" of fruits and vegetables like the recipe I posted last week. I think that since I have a lot of juices and eat lots of veggies and fruits on a daily basis, my stomach was not bothered much by the cleanse. In addition, I love coffee but do not have an addiction to it so that was easy to get off of for the 3 days. I would recommend to anyone who wants to do this to start by eating an almost all vegan diet for a few days leading up to this. It will help your body prepare.
So, I have been wanting to do a cleanse for a while now. When I looked into buying the juices for the cleanse, they were super pricey (around $200 for the 3 days) so I decided to make the juice myself. If you do not own a juicer and are willing to spend the money I have heard great things about Pressed Juicery.
I found this cleanse on Dr. Oz's site (I know, I know, Dr. Oz...). But, it was put together by Joe Cross, the guy who made the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. The juices sounded great and I do trust Joe Cross' knowledge. When picking out a cleanse I saw a lot of ones people I didn't know just made up. I wasn't sure if the ingredients going into those were what my body needed so I stuck with what I trusted to be good. The best part about this cleanse was the printable grocery list that tells you exactly what to buy (this is on the site I linked below). This made everything so much easier.
Pros:
- As Dr. Joel Fuhrman puts it on Dr. Oz's site, "Cleansing floods your system with powerful nutrients and antioxidents". That in itself, to me, is enough to do a cleanse.
- I had never felt so hydrated. As I've mentioned before, I do not drink enough fluids throughout the day. This cleanse helped me form a better habit of drinking more throughout the day even after the 3 days were over.
- My skin glowed. By day 3 my skin just looked brighter.
- I didn't crave dessert by the end. After finishing the cleanse I didn't want sweets at all.
Cons:
- I couldn't work out on the cleanse. I didn't have enough energy to do hot yoga so I ended up going on a lot of walks instead.
- It is expensive. I spent around $60 for the 3 days (A LOT less than the premade cleanses but more money than I would normally spend on food).
- Time consuming. I had to go back to using the Breville for this cleanse, which takes so much more time to clean than the Vitamix! I did this because it takes much longer to digest the whole food that's been blended up in the Vitamix than what is juiced in the Breville. I wouldn't have fully experienced the cleansing effects had I used the Vitamix. Making 5 juices a day took a lot of time and effort.
