I always try to have fresh flowers in my house because I love them. Flowers are beautiful, fragrant, and something that's only function is to bring more beauty into the world. Fresh flowers in a home say "someone cares". Fresh cut flowers signify something purely for pleasure, purely for beauty, purely to enhance what already is. Luckily, fresh flowers aren't too expensive. You can pick them up at the supermarket, local florist, or farmer's market. Feeling really broke? Sneak into your neighbors yard in the middle of the night and pick a bouquet. Point is, flowers signify the intention of pleasure whether for yourself or as a gift.
